Aajkal ke Gaane!!

December 31, 2008

The other day I was listening to this song from Rock On and I couldn’t help but wonder how dumb can the lyrics get. I mean seriously, just take a look at it:

Aasman hai neela kyon?        Coz blue light is scattered more than red light
paani geela geela kyon?        Surface tension..cohesive/adhesive forces
gol kyon hai zameen?           Gravitation..minimum surface area for a given volume

silk mein hai narmi kyon?     Low coefficient of friction
aag mein garmi kyon?          Coz human body temperature is relatively much lower than usual combustion temperature
do aur do paanch kyun nahin?    Dumbass!..that’s by definition..refer Bartley,Sherbert – Real Analysis

ped ho gaye kam kyon?        First sensible question..ask Al Gore..or watch The Inconvenient Truth
teen hai ye mausam kyon?    Kisne kaha teen hain??
chaand do kyon nahin?        Jupiter chala jaa..62 chaand mil jayenge!!

duniya mein hai jung kyon?    Second sensible question..for answer refer my first blog
behta laal rang kyon?            Coz of RBCs..vo na ho to safed rang bahega

socha hai… ye tumne kya kabhi?
socha hai… ki hai ye kya sabhi?
socha hai… socha nahin toh socho abhi

behti kyon hai har nadee?    jami ko glacier kehte hain, sookhi ko beach kehte hain,
us beach pe jab pani bahe to usiko nadee kehte hain!!    :P
barf girti hai kyon?             Newton uncle se poocho..dodo, it’s gravitation!

dost kyon hai rooth te?        Bhai ye teri personal problem hai
taare kyon hai toot te?        Vo taare nahi hote..ulka hoti hai..(for angreji speaking people..ulka means meteor)
badalon mein bijli hai kyon ?    Static charge…aur kya..upar Katrina Kaif thodi baithi hai!

socha hai… ye tumne kya kabhi?
socha hai… ki hai yeh kya sabhi?
socha hai… socha nahi toh socho abhi

sanaata sunaee nahin deta                Isiliye to usko sanaata kehte hain..shor nahi!!
aur hawaein dikhayee nahin deteen    Microscope leke dekh…dikh jayegi
socha hai… kya kabhi… hota hai ye kyon?

socha hai… ye tumne kya kabhi?
socha hai… ki hai ye kya sabhi?
socha hai… socha nahin toh socho abhi!!

One thing is for sure..neither Javed Akhtar nor Farhan Akhtar studied science after 8th standard!!
Peace Out.

Why do we do what we do?

September 18, 2008

Dear readers,

To some of you who know me, this might come as a surprise since you never expected me to join this blogging bandwagon….and to some others it might still be a surprise for altogether different reasons. I know most of you guys (my collegemates) must be expecting this to be an avenue where i’ll be “spitting out my venom” as they say…or in simpler terms be plain funny and humorous. Well, sorry to quash all your hopes…since that’s not the intention behind this blog. I’ll talk further on that issue in a future blog. But as of now let me stick to this one without rambling much.
So let me cut the chase and get to the point. The first and the most pertinent question that arises right now is “why did i decide to start blogging?”. That brings us to a much bigger and wider question ie “why do we do what we do?”. I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. What is it that drives most of our actions. Initially, after some thinking i came to the conclusion that its a combination of three forces – money, fame and power. But after further soul searching i figured out that its just one factor. Man is an animal afterall..isnt he? (not being gender specific here)…and this factor is the most basic human..or rather animal instinct…the instinct of SURVIVAL!! Since the time man set foot on this planet (just figurative, not saying that humans came from another planet), the topmost thing in the minds of our leaf-wearing, stone-wielding ancestors was survival. Well, this is not to say that this survival instinct is a bad thing…in fact tools, weapons, fire, agriculture…all these discoveries and inventions were a result of this very instinct. But over the years, as humans progressed, this instinct started to take up a completely different form altogether. What used to be a man vs beast instinct has turned into a man vs man instinct…probably because of the fact that the biggest threat to humans are…humans themselves!! It has manifested into a tendency to prove oneself as better or superior to fellow humans. The examples are strewn all over human history with ancient civilizations like Sparta followed by colonization by Europeans and presently the America vs Middle East thing apart from many other instances.
Anyway, let’s zoom in and look into the smaller picture…let us talk about the smallest of actions…probably controlled by the subconscious mind. We all crave for appreciation..dont we? Anybody who says he/she doesn’t like to be appreciated is simply lying. Why do we dress up so much?…to get appreciation. Why do we take part in competitions?…so that we can prove ourselves as better than others. Why did you (my fellow IITians) clear JEE?…not just because it gave you a secure future, but also because it meant respect in the society and your peer group. Why do we want an insanely high-paying job?…again the same reason…or else why would a guy with an 8 lacs package be upset…only because the other 4 guys in his lobby have 12 lacs packages to boast off. Infact, most of the acts of charity and socialwork by people (including us) is most of the time driven by a desire to be appreciated by others rather than simply by a desire to help others.
I’m not trying to be judgmental over this since it has been the major driving force behind all the development and progress. But for once try to free yourself from this instinct and do something completely selflessly…trust me, it does feel good.
I know many of you will not agree with my point of view and probably will have a lesson or two to teach me about human psychology or some others might say that its nothing new (when did i say it is?)…don’t worry, its just your basic instinct to prove yourself as better than me…i can understand because i know somewhere deep down it is precisely this very reason that has made me write this blog…to prove myself as better than you!!
